Actuality. All the Germanic languages are related through their common origin and joint development at the early stages of history. The survey of their external history will show where and when the Germanic languages arose and acquired their common features and also how they have developed into modern tongues. The aim of the course paper is to study Germanic languages. In order to achieve the aim we've put the following objectives: 1. To describe the history of the English language; 2. To examine borrowings in the Old English vocabulary; 3. To analyze Germanic history and linguistic features of the Germanic languages. The object of the paper is the Germanic languages. The subject is to examine the Germanic languages development.
